Vicky Gao

My name is Vicky. I'm a New York based graphic designer & video editor aiming to create with intention and seek creative solutions.

I earned an M.S. in Organization Management & Strategy from NYU Stern & NYU Shanghai and a B.S. in Integrated Design and Media from NYU Tandon.

In my free time, I enjoy designing digital planners, editing videos for my friends and family to watch, learning different design techniques, and collecting blind boxes.

NYU Production Lab

The NYU Production Lab is a creative incubator that helps NYU students and alumni artists launch and advance their careers in the arts and entertainment industry.

As the Communication and Graphic design lead, I created a cohesive visual identity for the NYU Production Lab's events. My work included designing newsletter banners and social media posts to effectively communicate and promote their initiatives.

NYU Chinese Student Society

New York University Chinese Student Society (NYU CSS) is the oldest Asian club at NYU.  Every year, the club holds many events to bring people together.

As the graphic designer, I created Facebook, Instagram, and Mailchimp graphics for the club's events. I love how each event challenged me to experiment with different color palettes and typography to create eye-catching content for the new or current members.

TEDxNYU

As the graphic designer for TEDxNYU, I collaborate closely with my partner on the creative team to bring the event's theme to life through design. My role involves conceptualizing and creating visually compelling posters and guest speaker introductions, which are shared across social media platforms and newsletters to engage and inspire the TEDxNYU community.

Journal Bakery Planner

The Journal Bakery Digital Planner is a self-directed project I’ve been developing since 2020. I design hyperlinked digital planners that can be used in popular note-taking apps like GoodNotes and Notability. This productivity tool is crafted to help students and professionals stay organized and efficiently manage their schedules, tasks, and goals.

Bunsbk

Bunsbk is a Brooklyn-based pop-up bakery run by Aria. The founder of Bunsbk baked and sold Asian sweets to support the fight against Asian hate crimes. Twenty percent of the profit will be donated to Think! Chinatown, a non-profit organization that aims to build a strong and vibrant community in NYC Chinatown through neighborhood engagement, storytelling & the arts.

The purpose of this desktop documentary is to introduce Bunsbk and Aria’s story to others. I had the chance to meet Aria and film her making Nutella babkas. In the documentary, she explained why she decided to start Bunsbk, and why it’s so special to her.

煎饼 JianBing

This short documentary was inspired by Glas, a film that won the Oscar for Documentary Short Subject in 1959. I had the pleasure of filming Alice Sun making JianBing, a traditional Chinese streetfood. Each moment is carefully edited to match the beat of the bgm.

Planning Ahead

A short film about how little planning can hurt the friendship between Amelia and Kaiya. Faced with the consequences of her actions, Amelia embarks on a journey of self-reflection and seeks a way to rebuild both her routine and their bond.

Journal Bakery Planner

My first YouTube tutorial on how to use my digital planner. Every year, I post a free hyperlinked planner that can be used on note-taking apps like GoodNotes and Notability.
